INSTRUCTIONS to make the Tags

SKILL Level – Easy with a bit of sewing in the tails. The project requires crocheting in all three loops of the beginning chain.
About Pattern: This quirky 3 dimensional version of a Christmas tree is a fun way of using just simple crochet chains and placements of joining by slip stitches.
COMPLETED SIZE: Any weight of yarn works. Ideal being DK weight or more.
This gives a good sized tag that can be used for bags or even key rings.
Total length: 5" including the tag loop.
Length of the motif: 2.25"
If you'd like more fun and quirky market makes - you can always check out more patterns from my Ravelry or Lovecrafts stores.
Materials:
Yarn Used: Yarn of choice – DK weight cotton yarn. Total Yardage: 88 - 98 yards for 50g
I have used – approximately 1.5 yards of the yarn for the base/trunk; 5 - 6 yards of yarn for the tree (leaves).
I have used Zuchi Ami Cotton yarn for the featured project in the pattern.
Crochet hook – I HAVE USED: 3.5mm hook for the project featured in the pictures. You can use crochet hook, a size or two smaller than you’d usually use with the yarn. This gives you tight stitches and rigidity to the project.
Scissors and a needle to finish up.
GUAGE: N/A. According to the gauge/yarn/ hook used, the size and stiffness of the project may vary. Custom instructions will be highlighted.

Stitches used: US crochet terms
ch - chain
ss – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
PLEASE NOTE:
· ch1 doesn’t count as a stitch, unless specified.

LET’S START!!!

The base or trunk:
Using Dark Brown yarn/ or any contrasting color, make the base as follows.

Chain 3
ROW 1: sc in the second ch from the hook,
sc in the next chain. Ch1 and TURN. (2sc)
To make a bigger trunk; else directly jump to ROW 3 instructions.
ROW 2: sc in each stitch. ch1 and TURN. (2sc)

ROW 3: skip the first stitch, and make sc in the next stitch. (1sc)
Continue and Chain 45, and slip stitch (ss) into the 35th chain.
ALTERNATIVELY - you can count 10 chains from the end of ROW 3 and ss into that.
Refer to the picture.
Fasten off and leave a long tail to weave in.

Making the Leaves:

The Top of the TREE(Leaves) is crocheted in 3 panels to give you a 3-Dimensional tree-top and bulk.
Join the Green yarn (or any color of choice for a quirky version) to the same chain we ended the previous segment.
Before we start though; we need to ensure we know where we will be working the stitches.
Each crochet chain has 3 parts: Front Loop, Back Loop and Third Loop/Back Bump.
As shown in the picture, we will work the panel into each set of the loops.
