#tmosaiccrochet is a way to add body and texture to a project, in addition to colorwork!
Mosaic is a way to interlock the colors with a alternating single and double crochet in Back loops and front loops of the stitches. A fun technique to create a visual of texture with just the basic stitches.
If you are new to #mosaic #crochet - then here are some useful links to learn the how to, and the basic instructions that will help you.

INSTRUCTIONS to make the Skeletal Leaf Mosaic Coaster!
SKILL Level – Easy/Intermediate
About Pattern: This is a simple no Sew/ minimum sew Pattern to make a mosaic crochet coaster with a boxy basic leaf pattern in some Fall-ey colors!
COMPLETED SIZE: approximately 4.0” square Coaster. If yarn used is thicker/thinner, the size may vary.
Materials:
● Yarn - Light DK/ Sport weight – Cotton/Cotton mix; Here I have used Urshii Crochet Thread Yarn. Total Yardage: 88 - 98 yards for 50g.
● Yarn carried over behind: approximately 21 yards of Main color and 14 yards of Contrast colored yarn.
● Fringed Version: (not pictured - optional) approximately 16 yards each of Main and Contrast color yarn.
● Crochet hook – use a hook about a size or two smaller than suggested hook.
I HAVE USED: 3 mm hook for the project featured in the picture.
● Stitch Markers, scissors and a needle to finish up.
● Yarn carried over behind: approximately 30 yards of Main color (COLOR 1) and 5 yards of Contrast colored yarn (COLOR 2). I have used a small bit of a third color to embroider!
● Crochet hook – use a hook about a size or two smaller than suggested hook.
I HAVE USED: 3 mm hook for the project featured in the picture.
● Stitch Markers, scissors and a needle to finish up.
Gauge: Gauge: N/A
PLEASE NOTE - According to the gauge/yarn/ hook used, the size and stiffness of the project may vary. Custom instructions, if any, will be highlighted.
TIP: If carrying the yarn across, keep the carrying yarn restricted to one side (Wrong Side), this gives you a neat finish.
Stitches used: US crochet terms
ch - chain
sc – single crochet
blsc – single crochet in the Back Loop Only in the color indicated by the pattern.
fldc – Double crochet in the front Loop Only in the color indicated by the pattern.
IMPORTANT
PLEASE NOTE:
• ch1 does not count unless specified otherwise.
• If carrying the yarn over, start working over the carry over non-working color right from ROW1. This gives even thickness across the coaster and avoid loose strands at the Wrong side of the work.
• We will ALWAYS work starting from the Right to the Left of the chart for each row. There is NO Turning the work.
· Stitch 1 and Stitch 25 are regular sc stitches and are indicated as ‘sc’ in the Written instructions and indicated by Row numbers and color codes in the chart.
· Working Color – it is the indicated color for the row, as marked in the stitch 1 of the chart.
Colors for the Chart are shown below. (You can get the Chart as an Ad-Free downloadable PDF)
For written instructions, the color used in the row will be indicated with the highlight. Color1 and Color2
· Mosaic Pattern actually starts from stitch 2-24 which we will work as blsc/fldc with the working color of the row.
· As specified in the ‘About Pattern’ – You can choose to carry the non-working yarn at the back to avoid cutting the yarn at the end of each Row. This gives us a neat and finished edge to the work.
· For both Fringed or Carry over method, fasten off the yarn at the stitch 25 before carrying the yarn in the back.
· For the Fringed version, join the yarn at the beginning of the row, at stitch 1 and fasten off at stitch 25 and cut the yarn.
In my case, as I crochet Right to Left, that is the way I will read my chart and hence written instructions are written accordingly.
• Hence to crochet Left to Right - just read the chart Left to Right; or follow the written instructions backwards for every row.
You can read a very well-defined article about it on Sixel Designs blog.
This is a wonderful blog to see in clear graphics to understand how the instructions for fldc and blsc need to be followed to interlock a Mosaic. This blog reference is just to give a beginner a general idea of how to mosaic crochet. PLEASE read the NOTES above to follow instructions specific to my pattern.
