Mystery Crochet Project 1 - Kickstart Oct 2026!

Halloween Month - Oct 2026.
My Crafter friends and I met up yesterday to celebrate a milestone birthday in the group. It was an envigorating and happy meet. Inspired by the enthusiastic energy and joy; is the source for this Mystery Pattern. Let's see what you can make of it. I'd love to see your makes.

Let's get started!
What you need:
* about 20 yards of DK weight yarn in any color. (Cotton or Cotton mix preferably. This is an amazing way to use up some Scrap Cotton Yarn!
I HAVE USED: Laura Knitting cotton - Yardage of 110 yards for 50g. Click on the linked words above to get the Ravelry Page for this yarn!
* 4mm Crochet hook.
* a pair of scissors, a stitch marked and a yarn needle to finish.
Stitches you will use:
Ch - Chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
slip stitch
3dc - make 3 double crochet stitches in the same stitch as indicated.
PLEASE NOTE:
ch1 does not count unless specified otherwise.
when you dc in 4th chain at beginning of a row: the 3 chains count as the first dc... so the top of that ch 3 is considered at a stitch for the following rows.
ch3 at the beginning of a row is considred as a dc stitch.
About the pattern!
SKILL Level – Easy/Intermediate
About Pattern: A fun scrap yarn project. Worked from Bottom-up, it is shaped using basic sc and dc stitches.
COMPLETED SIZE: Approximately 4*4 inches or 10* 9 cms.
The size may vary according to the variation in yarn and hook size.
Gauge: N/A
PLEASE NOTE - According to the gauge/yarn/ hook used, the size and stiffness of the project may vary. Custom instructions will be highlighted.
Written INSTRUCTIONS to make the Cauldron Bag Tag!
Starting with a sufficiently long tail (at the least about 10 cms)
Chain 17 (This is the base from where the pattern builds.)
Row 1: make a dc in 4th chain from hook,
ch 1 skip the next 2 chains,
(make 3 dc in the next chain, skip next 2 chains)* 3 times,
Ch1 and make a dc in each of the next last 2 chains,
chain 4 and TURN. (13 dc, 2 chain spaces)
Row 2: make sc in the 2nd chain from hook and in each of the next 2 chains,
make sc in each of the 2 stitches, make sc in the ch1 space,
make sc in each of the next 9 stitches, make sc in the ch1 space,
sc in the last 2 stitches .
Make 5 chains and TURN. (19 sc)
Please NOTE: ch 3 from the beginning of every ODD row is considered as the first dc stitch.
Row 3: (place a stitch marker in the 3rd chain from hook)
make a dc in 4th chain from hook, ch 1 skip the next chain and stitch,
(make 3 dc in the next stitch, skip next 2 stitches)* 5 times,
ch1 and make a dc in each of the next last 2 stitches,
TURN. (19 dc, 2 chain spaces)
Row 4: ch1, make sc in next 2 stitches, make sc in next chain space,
make sc in each of the next 15 stitches, make sc in the next chain space,
make sc in each of the last 2 stitches. TURN. (21 sc)
Row 5: ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in the next stitch,
ch1 skip the next chain and stitch,
(make 3 dc in the next stitch and skip next 2 stitches)* 5 times,
ch1 and make a dc in each of the next last 2 stitches,
TURN. (19 dc, 2 chain spaces)
Row 6: REPEAT Row 4.
Row 7: REPEAT Row 5.
Row 8: REPEAT Row 4.
Row 9: REPEAT Row 5.
Row 10: REPEAT Row 4. Do NOT TURN at the end of row.
Chain 10 and slip stitch to the marked chain from Row 3.
Finishing Instructions:
TURN project (flip it over); so we can work into the chain space made.
Make 15 sc in the chain space, slip stitch into the last sc made in Row 10.
Make a slip stitch in each stitch of Row 10 for neater finish. Fasten off and weave in the ends!
