INSTRUCTIONS to make the Fallen Leaf Curtain Tie!

SKILL Level – Easy (With knowledge of mosaic crochet)/Moderate

About Pattern:  This 2 tones mosaic crochet Curtain Tie is inspired by mini leaves motifs. The one piece, minimum sew pattern is a quick project and can be easily adapted to any size.

COMPLETED SIZE:  22 cm/8.2 inches in length and 6.5 cm/2.5 inches wide approximately; not including the fringe and ties.

Size may vary based on yarn thickness or hook size used.

Materials:

Yarn Used: Light DK/ Sport weight – Cotton/Cotton mix; Here I have used Urshii Crochet Thread Yarn. Total Yardage: 88 - 98 yards for 50g

  • I have used – approximately 15 yards of COLOR 1 and 15 yards of COLOR 2 for the one Curtain Tie.

  • Crochet hook – I HAVE USED: 4.5 mm hook for the project featured in the picture. You can use the hood size a size lower than recommended for a firmer fabric.

  • Scissors and a needle to finish up.

Gauge:   Gauge: N/A

PLEASE NOTE - According to the gauge/yarn/ hook used, the size and stiffness of the project may vary. Custom instructions, if any, will be highlighted.

Stitches used: US crochet terms

  • ch - chain

  • sc – single crochet: in the Written instructions this indicates a regular single crochet worked in both loops as you normally would.

  • blsc - Single Crochet in The Back Loop Only: we work an sc in the indicated stitch of the row, but only using the BACK loop of the previous row stitch.

  • fldc - Double Crochet in The Front Loop Only: we work an dc in the indicated stitch of 2 rows below, but only using the available FRONT loop of the stitch.

If you have purchased/downloaded the CHART, then the following chart symbols will be followed.

blsc – single crochet in the Back Loop Only in the color indicated by the pattern.

fldc – Double crochet in the front Loop Only in the color indicated by the pattern.

IMPORTANT

NOTES: Go through the instructions once before starting.

·       ch1 does not count as a stitch unless specified otherwise.

·       The project is worked in the round. So, drop the yarn and pick the next color after ending a round, unless specified.

·       JOIN means join with a slip stitch to the Back loop of the first stitch unless specified otherwise.

Drop the working color and pick the next color and make a ch1. Pull on both colors, to ensure there are no gaps.

·       Pattern is a set of 36 stitches and can be adapted to accommodate as many repeats as required. The stitch count includes the regular sc to begin and end the row which are your anchor stitches for mosaic crochet.

·       You can use the whole chart/pattern instructions as many times as you can, and follow part instructions for the remaining.

·       We will ALWAYS work starting from the Right to the Left of the chart for each round. There is NO Turning the work; as we will be working in the round.

·       Regular sc stitches and are indicated as ‘sc’ in the written instructions and indicated by Row numbers and color codes in the chart.

COLOR 2

COLOR 1

·       Working Color – it is the indicated color for the row, as marked in the stitch 1 of the chart.

For written instructions, the color used in the row will be indicated with the highlight.   COLOR1 and COLOR 2

·       REPEATABLE Mosaic Pattern in CHART starts from column 2-34 which we will work as blsc/fldc with the working color of the row.

RW: indicates working row

·       Stitch description examples:

o   3 sc – means make normal sc in next 3 stitches with the working color.

o   blsc – means make sc in the Back Loop Only in next 1 stitch with working color.

o   2 fldc – means make dc in the Front Loop Only in next 2 stitches with working color.

You can read a very well-defined article about it on Sixel Designs blog.

This is a wonderful blog to see in clear graphics to understand how the instructions for fldc and blsc need to be followed to interlock a Mosaic. This blog reference is just to give a beginner a general idea of how to mosaic crochet. PLEASE read the NOTES above to follow instructions specific to my pattern.

LET’S START!!!

Written Instructions: (will cover the 36-stitch pattern)

·       You can use the part or whole chart/pattern instructions as many times as you can, and follow part instructions for the remaining.

·        * Indicates Repeat the given instructions completely/ partially for as your stitch count allows.

Using COLOR1 chain required number of chains to start. I have used 37 stitches to get an 8.2" curtain tie.

Row 1:  make an sc in the second chain from hook and in each chain across. (36 sc).

Continue and chain about 20 chains to forms fist tie on the left-hand side of project.

Fasten off and cut the yarn.

Using COLOR 2 make 20 chains (makes the first tie on the right side of project) and then attach it by making a sc in the first stitch;

Row 2: make a blsc in the second stitch across till you reach the last stitch.

In the last stitch make a regular sc. (2 sc and 34 blsc).

Fasten off and cut the yarn.

From here on we will continue to join the yarns to the first stitch an fasten off and cut the yarn after the last sc; alternating ODD rows in COLOR 1 and EVEN rows in COLOR 2.

Row 3 to Row 11: Follow the Chart pattern as per your stitch count. This is where you can Download/Purchase the Chart ONLY AD-Free PDF.

Fasten off and Weave in the ends.

You can Download the CHART only PDF for FREE for 24 hours on its feature day of September 24th, 2026 from my webstore!
